Responsible for accurate home health diagnosis coding and OASIS review to ensure compliant documentation, regulatory adherence, and timely billing for U.S. home health services.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
Perform pre-lock abstraction and review of home health medical records to assign and sequence diagnosis codes
Review OASIS assessments to identify alerts, omissions, and inconsistencies, and ensure corrections as per policy
Apply Home Health coding guidelines, regulatory requirements, and official coding rules accurately
Assign, sequence, and enter diagnosis codes with a minimum accuracy benchmark of 95% within defined turnaround times
Meet assigned daily productivity and quality targets
Support home health agency staff by clarifying coding guidelines, policies, and documentation requirements
Identify and report coding errors, compliance risks, or documentation gaps in accordance with established procedures
Maintain accurate electronic records, coding logs, and supporting documentation as per retention policies
Communicate requests for additional or clarified clinical information to appropriate stakeholders
Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications
2–6 years of experience in Home Health medical coding
Strong understanding of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems
Hands-on experience with OASIS, home health documentation, and U.S. healthcare workflows
Familiarity with denial prevention, regulatory compliance, and CMS guidelines
Certification such as CPC, CCS, BCHH-C, or equivalent preferred (or willingness to obtain certification within a defined timeframe)
Undergraduate degree or higher, or equivalent relevant experience
Skills
Strong attention to detail with analytical and independent working capability
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Clear verbal and written communication skills
Ability to prioritize tasks, manage workload, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations and confidentiality requirements
