On March 29, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized a second Moderna COVID-19 vaccine booster dose for adults aged 50 and older and certain immunocompromised adults. Following this, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes for reporting the second Moderna COVID-19 booster on medical claims.
Effective March 29, 2022, the new codes for the vaccine booster and administration are the following:
- 91309: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARSCoV-2) (coronavirus disease [COVID-19]) vaccine, mRNA-LNP, spike protein, preservative free, 50 mcg/0.5 mL dosage, for intramuscular use
- 0094A: Immunization administration by intramuscular injection of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARSCoV-2) (coronavirus disease [COVID-19]) vaccine, mRNA-LNP, spike protein, preservative free, 50 mcg/0.5 mL dosage, booster dose
